Rhacodactylus Leachianus: also commonly known as the New Caledonian giant gecko or just Leachie, are native to the main island of New Caledonia. Reaching a total of 36cm in length (including tail), they are considered to be the largest gecko in the world.
They inhabit many different localities. The ones I have are from Nuu Ami and Nuu Ana.
They are the smallest among the other leachies but they have the most beautiful colour and patterns on their body. Leachie have a heavy body, loose skin as well as a small stumpy tail, which I personally think makes them super cute.
They have a reputation of making growling noises which gives them their reputation as the “Devil in the trees”.
Unless for breeding purposes, it is best to keep them solely in a tank as they are know to be aggressive to tankmates.
Their diet consists mainly of insects, spiders and various types of fruit. Though on some occasions a full grown leachie can eat small mice!
For me, I feed them the most practical way which is to give them special leachie foods from well known brand manufacturers.
Such as Pangea, Zoomed or Repashy that are available in the market.
Overall they are fun to keep and personally I love the way their bodys look, but they are most certainly not cheap to aquire on the market. (Source: Wikipedia)
